The Riverland Divisions of General Practice and the Murray Mallee General Practice Network Rural Palliative Care Project is facilitated nationwide by the Australian Divisions of General Practice and was originally funded 2008-2010. The Riverland Division of General Practice and Murray Mallee General Practice Network have been given an extension of funding and so the Rural Palliative Care Project (RPCP) will continue until July 2011.
The RDGP & MMGPN is coordinating the project with the support of key partners and the Palliative Care Service. Over the next year the Project will be developed and implemented in accordance with the Statewide Palliative Care Strategic Plan and the National Palliative Care Strategy.

The development of the Project will occur in consultation with service providers and members of the community who are sensitive to the needs of people living in our community with a life limiting illness.

The aim of the Rural Palliative Care Project is to improve access to quality, coordinated palliative care services for people in the Riverland and Murray Mallee regions of SA.

The RPCP is not designed to develop or provide new palliative care services, rather to enhance and ensure linkages, orientation and coordination among existing service providers (primary and tertiary) and to identify and fill gaps in service provision

The Rural Palliative Care Project provides both regions with a fantastic opportunity to... ‘expand the sustainable model for healthcare delivery in a rural and remote SA which is, above all, sensitive to the needs of those living in local communities’
