NPS Educational Visits

The National Prescribing Service Limited (NPS) is a member-based organisation providing accurate, balanced, evidence-based information to health professionals and the community on improved quality use of medicines, where the use of a medicine is considered to be judicious, appropriate, safe, cost-effective and efficacious.
NPS works in partnership with GPs, pharmacists, specialists, other health professionals, Government, pharmaceutical industry, consumer organisations and the community.
NPS is an independent, non-profit organisation funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing.
The programs NPS design focus on therapeutic areas where there is evidence that changes to prescribing can lead to better health outcomes for consumers.
The NPS program within the Division focuses on the delivery of education and resources about the Quality Use of Medicines to GPs & pharmacists.
The Division offers GPs, within the Divisions boundaries, the following NPS activities:
One-on-one practice visits (~30 minutes)
GPs are visited by a Pharmacist provided by the Drug and Therapeutics Service (DATIS) to discuss how current evidence on specific therapeutic topics translates into quality prescribing for their patients.

Case study discussions (~45 – 60 mins)
Case Studies are available for individual or group discussion. GPs, pharmacists and practice nurses are welcome to attend these meetings.

Clinical audits
Involve GPs reviewing their own practice against evidence-based guidelines on specific therapeutic topics.

Continuing Professional Development Workshops
